Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years in specialty License: Active nursing license Certifications: BLS Must-Have: - Neuro surgery experience - Blood product administration - PICC line management - Starting IVs - Pre/Post neuro surgery experience - Skills in managing surgical drains, chest tubes, and isolation precautions Description: This position requires a registered nurse to work in a major trauma unit. Patient diagnoses include multi-trauma, seizure, gunshot wounds, falls, traumatic brain injury, stroke, sepsis, psychiatric conditions, epidural hematomas, cerebral edema, and ortho-related trauma. Experience in neuro surgery is required. The unit performs various special procedures including craniotomy, spinal fusions, and external fixators. The nurse may float to other inpatient units as needed. Each nurse is expected to participate in an emergency response team as directed by their unit manager. An understanding of various special equipment used in the unit is essential. The patient-to-nurse ratio is expected to be manageable during shifts. This role encompasses working with interdisciplinary support including physical therapy and social services. Both ACLS and NIH certification are preferred but not mandatory. Candidates must be comfortable with the required patient conditions and fast-paced environments.
