Job Title: Med-Surg Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Med-Surg Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent experience License: RN license required Certifications: BLS Certification Must-Have: Post Operative Recovery Experience preferred Description: Department: MedSurg Number of Beds: 3 East - 24, 3 North - 17, 2 North - 15 Staff works interchangeably between the three units. Nurse-Patient Ratios: 1:4-5 days and 1:5-6 nights. Common diagnoses include Post Operative - General/Orthopedic/Podiatry. General Medical cases include Diabetes Mellitus, Congestive Heart Failure, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, and Cellulitis. Experience with CBI, BiPAP, Peritoneal dialysis, surgical drains, and wound vacs is beneficial. RNs are not required to titrate drips. Patients can be on telemetry. Monitoring is managed centrally by Monitor Tech. Charge Nurse has patients; Nursing Supervisor does not have patients and is available 24/7. Nurse aides are available on the unit. Assignments are based on acuity, 1:12-14. Some are cross-trained in phlebotomy and EKG interpretation. Typical duties of a Nurse Aide include answering phones and call lights. Respiratory equipment includes BiPAP, High Flow, and Vapotherm, with management by Respiratory staff. Scheduled shifts are based on needs, typically 12 hours from 0700-1930 or 1900-0730. Every other weekend commitment is required. Holiday rotation is part of the schedule. No on-call or standby requirement for agency staff. Floating to ICU or Telemetry may be required for Med-Surg overflow, with patients taken within scope. Scrub color is professional. Department-specific orientation includes a 12-hour shift with a preceptor engaging in hands-on training. All travelers with previous employment at any location must disclose it on their resume for a DNU check.
