Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 hours (07:00 - 19:30) Experience: 1-2 years Med/Surg Experience preferred License: Valid RN license required Certifications: BLS (AHA), NIHSS required or willing to complete prior to start Must-Have: - Every other weekend required - May be asked to float to other Medical/Surgical Units, ICU Units, and Emergency Department waiting rooms - Nurse to Patient Ratio 1:4 or 1:5 Description: This is a 40-bed medical surgical unit specializing in the care of patients with neurological disorders such as stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and other inflammatory disorders of the brain and spinal cord. The unit has a large population of spinal surgery patients, including care for post-operative neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, laminectomy, and spinal fusion patients. It includes six step-down/telemetry beds and six bariatric beds, allowing for diverse patient care. There is also a four-bed neuro monitoring area for admitting seizure patients starting at age five to investigate the causes of their seizures. Interdisciplinary support is provided by physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, rapid response teams, and pharmacy. Patient diagnoses include stroke, laminectomy, and seizures. The unit has a daily census of approximately 43 patients. The required modules for compliance and training will be completed during the initial onboarding process and annually thereafter. References must be from supervisory-level individuals.
