Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical provides direct patient care to adult and geriatric patients admitted to the Med-Surg unit. The RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized patient care while ensuring safety, quality, and compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients with a wide range of medical and post-surgical conditions
  • Perform patient assessments, monitor vital signs, and document clinical findings accurately
  • Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments as prescribed by physicians
  • Monitor post-operative patients for complications and respond promptly to changes in condition
  • Collaborate with physicians, case managers, and interdisciplinary teams to develop and update care plans
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions
  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical records (EMR documentation)
  • Ensure infection control practices and patient safety protocols are strictly followed
  • Respond to emergencies and provide critical interventions when needed
  • Assist with discharge planning and continuity of care coordination
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Current and active RN license (State of employment)
  • BLS certification required (ACLS preferred depending on unit)
  • Minimum 1–2 years of Med-Surg or acute care hospital experience preferred
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to manage multiple patients in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • Proficiency in EMR systems (Epic/Cerner preferred)
