Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Med Surg Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 19:00 - 07:00 Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Active RN license Certifications: BLS certification Must-Have: Med/Surg Experience Ability to prioritize care Ability to multitask Skill in starting IVs Basic wound care knowledge Maintenance of surgical drains Knowledge of nasogastric tubes and chest tubes Description: The unit has a total of 20 beds with a patient ratio of 6:1. There is tech support available on both day and night shifts. An unit secretary is present from 7 AM to 7 PM. Equipment used includes IV pumps, telemetry, SCDs, continuous pulse oximeters, feeding pumps, PCA, EKG machines, bladder scanners, and iMobile communication technology. The documentation system in use is Meditech. Scheduling consists of 3 twelve-hour shifts per week with 2 weekends (4 shifts) included in a 4-week schedule. The floating policy dictates that contract labor is the first to float, with rotation applied when multiple staff members are scheduled. Attentive and compassionate care is expected for patients and their family members. Bedside shift reports are conducted. There is an emphasis on making personal connections with patients and including them and their family members in the plan of care. The unit is certified for stroke care and is an ACS verified Level II trauma center as well as a certified chest pain center. This role requires prioritization of care, multitasking, and proficiency in various medical procedures. The dress code consists of navy scrubs for both tops and bottoms.
