Description: The RN Clinical Nurse Emergency Department is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team. They ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized, high-quality, and safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment administered by Nurse Managers and supported through shared governance. The framework for practice is guided by a professional practice model, evidence-based practice, and research. RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by core values. It is expected that all RN Clinical Nurses in Emergency Services are licensed and knowledgeable. They will uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the relevant nursing practice act. This includes implementing the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards. As a member of the patient services team, the individual upholds the voice of the patient. They must follow system policies and procedures while supporting service excellence goals. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: They perform the nursing process which includes assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Clinical care is delivered using evidence-based practice. The RN utilizes analytical and critical thinking to ensure care is individualized. They coordinate care through effective partnerships recognizing that caring is central to achieving optimal patient outcomes. Relationship-based patient-centered care is provided consistently with population-specific characteristics. They partner with patients and significant others using appropriate methods for communication. The RN practices according to current clinical practice standards. The delivery and documentation of safe quality patient care are coordinated effectively. This includes diverse and inclusive interdisciplinary communication methods and timely documentation. Teamwork and collaboration are essential in fostering a respectful clinical environment. The RN actively supports performance improvement inclusive of all stakeholders. They engage in research and its utilization to promote safe, quality patient care. Participation in shared governance is encouraged at all levels within the system. Professional development through completing ongoing competency assessments and education is required. The RN serves as a preceptor or mentor for other professional nurses and staff. This helps ensure a qualified workforce and a healthy work environment. Evidence-based practice and research are promoted actively. Participation in data collection and consultation with experts is essential to address practice questions. The RN supports efficient use of human and material resources while planning patient care. They collaborate with care managers and team members to achieve best practice outcomes. Other duties as assigned must comply with all relevant policies, standards of work, and codes of conduct.
