Job Title: Emergency Department Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Emergency Duration: 14 weeks Shift: Part Time Hours per Shift: 12 hours (2 shifts per week) + On-call shifts as needed Experience: Two years acute hospital experience as a Registered Nurse, with at least one year of experience in an Emergency Department License: Current State Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, Stroke Certification (must be AHA or RQI) Must-Have: Two years of experience serving as a Registered Nurse, with at least one year in an Emergency Department Description: The Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical skills, and communication skills in delivering high-quality compassionate care to patients and families. The Emergency Department RN assesses patient needs, identifies urgent or emergent care priorities, and collaboratively provides direct care. He/She applies appropriate interventions and evaluates patient progress. The Emergency Department RN demonstrates skill in the use of various invasive and non-invasive procedures, treatments, and interventions appropriate for managing life-threatening and routine emergency situations. Utilizing principles of relationship-based care, the RN alleviates anxiety, provides information, and addresses pain/discomfort and safety. The RN assesses the physiological, psychosocial, emotional, and cultural needs of patients of all age groups, their families, and support systems as appropriate. The RN connects with patients and families during triage, identifying the initial management of patients and prioritizing care in accordance with triage standards. He/She establishes rapport with patients and families, addresses comfort needs, listens carefully, assesses nonverbal communication, and provides frequent updates. The RN conducts primary assessments of critical needs and documents any major deviations from the norm for all age groups within acceptable time frames. He/She identifies necessary steps and interventions required based on direct observation, patient/family interviews, EMS reports, and data. The RN assesses psychosocial needs and documents any suspicion of domestic violence or abuse in all age groups. He/She reassesses patients to identify responses to treatment and changes in condition while responding appropriately. The RN encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to achieve the best possible patient outcomes. He/She teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks consistent with education, training, and scope of practice. The RN understands personal responsibility to safeguard public safety through infection prevention strategies. He/She prepares patients and families for diagnostic procedures and treatments, making appropriate referrals for post-emergency care. The RN teaches patients what is needed for continued care and healing at home, assessing learning styles to maximize understanding. He/She asks questions to evaluate retention of key points in education and discharge instructions. The RN seeks to understand what is important to the patient and family, acknowledging their central role in care and services. He/She maintains awareness of the patient's condition throughout the visit and updates communication boards as needed.
