Medical Surgical Registered Nurse

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Medical Surgical Registered Nurse for a 13-week contract assignment in Gardner, Massachusetts. This role involves providing comprehensive nursing care to a diverse adult patient population within an acute care hospital setting.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care, ensuring adherence to established standards of practice and protocols. You will collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care, focusing on patient safety, education, and positive outcomes.

This position offers an opportunity to contribute to a supportive healthcare environment, utilizing your clinical expertise to manage complex medical and surgical cases, administer medications, and provide essential patient and family education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, develop individualized care plans, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Provide direct patient care based on established standards of care, protocols, and policies.
  • Administer medications and intravenous therapy safely and accurately in accordance with physician orders.
  • Monitor and interpret patient cardiac rate, rhythm, and configuration, initiating appropriate treatment plans as ordered.
  • Assess and manage patient pain levels effectively, utilizing various techniques and devices, and reassess responses regularly.
  • Provide ongoing education to patients and families regarding their condition, treatment plan, and discharge needs.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare team members to ensure integration of services and continuity of patient care.
  • Appropriately delegate and supervise nursing interventions performed by others.
  • Prioritize patient care needs, recognizing the necessity for emergency intervention when required.
  • Maintain thorough, timely, and accurate documentation of all pertinent patient data, therapeutic interventions, and responses.
  • Proactively identify risks to patient safety and contribute to opportunities for reducing medical/healthcare errors.
  • Promote professional learning for colleagues and self, potentially functioning as a preceptor or attending professional development programs.
  • Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot medical equipment relevant to surgical patients, such as traction/orthopedic devices, feeding pumps, chest tubes, and drains.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Ability to work in Gardner, Massachusetts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in Medical Surgical nursing.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in Telemetry nursing.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in Pediatric nursing.
