Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a similar setting required License: Valid state license required, pending licenses accepted Certifications: BLS, ACLS required, CCRN preferred Must-Have: Epic experience is required Ability to float within scope of practice Description: The MICU population primarily consists of patients with multi-system failure and co-morbid conditions. Common diagnoses include sepsis, pneumonia, GI bleed, and organ failure. The unit has recently opened, expanding to accommodate 28 beds across two areas staffed by the MICU team. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:2. Nurses are expected to work every other weekend and every other holiday. Time off around Labor Day is not permitted. Back-to-back weekends off cannot be approved. Nurses will be involved in procedures such as percutaneous tracheostomies, central venous catheter placements, and more. Experience with advanced monitoring and care of ventilated patients is needed. Interdisciplinary support includes various services such as physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services. COVID-19 vaccination is not required, but flu vaccination is mandated with no exemptions. Candidates must comply with float policies and be prepared to manage a range of complex medical conditions. The role also requires knowledge of procedures and protocols pertinent to the MICU environment. Continuous education through modules is part of the role's responsibilities.
