Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nurse Specialty: Medical Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 hours (06:30 - 19:00) Experience: Minimum 2 years RN experience required License: Current RN license required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS required Must-Have: - Charge nurse experience - Travel experience required - Patient ratio experience of 2-3 Description: The position is for a registered nurse in a Medical Intensive Care Unit. This unit cares for medically complex and critically ill patients. Common patient conditions include respiratory failure requiring both noninvasive and mechanical ventilation. Other conditions treated include cardiac arrest, multisystem organ failure, various shock states, stroke, COVID, ARDS, DKA, and alcohol withdrawal. The unit has a standard nurse-to-patient ratio of 2:1. If boarders are present, the ratio may increase to 4:1. There is one CNA available per shift to assist with care. The environment is high acuity and fast-paced. Frequent procedures performed include bedside central and arterial line placements, chest tube placement, rapid sequence intubation, and code blue actions. Registered nurses should be prepared to float to telemetry units as needed. All traveling nurses should have robust skills in nursing management and critical care procedures. Clinical team members include IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, social services, and rapid response teams. Communication devices will be provided as needed for job performance. All nurses should be willing to work holidays and weekends as required. Candidates must complete annual education on stroke-specific care. Traveling positions will expose nurses to varied patient populations and treatment protocols.
