Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Active nursing license Certifications: ACLS BLS NIHSS Must-Have: Traveler experience required; first-time travelers not accepted. Local candidates accepted; rate difference applies. Description: The role requires a qualified nurse with experience in the Medical Intensive Care Unit. Candidates must be proficient in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias. Experience in managing patients with multisystem organ dysfunction or failure is essential. Ability to obtain a 12-lead EKG/ECG is required. Central Venous Pressure Monitoring (CVP) skills are necessary. Candidates should be knowledgeable in IV insulin protocols, liver failure, acute kidney injury, and chronic/acute renal failure. Intake and output monitoring and urine output assessment are key tasks. Accessing and managing ports, along with arterial line management, is necessary. Blood product administration and central line care/management skills are required. Candidates must be able to start and maintain IVs and manage TPN/lipids. Continuous IV sedation experience is needed. Knowledge of emergency medications and procedural sedation administration/monitoring is required. Candidates should be able to titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips. Assisting with chest tube insertion and removal is part of the job. Management of BiPAP/CPAP and care of ventilated patients is expected. Experience with high flow nasal cannula management is essential. Candidates must be able to interpret arterial blood gases. Experience in treating pulmonary edema, pulmonary embolism, and respiratory failure is required. Suctioning for endotracheal and nasotracheal tubes is necessary. Ventilator management experience is essential. Infection prevention knowledge is required. Candidates must understand INR and isolation precautions. Skills to manage high-output drains, phlebotomy, PT/PTT, and recognize infections in immunosuppressed patients are needed. Preferred Skills/Certifications: Experience in Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU), Neuro Intensive Care Unit, and Surgical Intensive Care Unit is a plus. Knowledge of thermoregulation, post-cardiac surgery recovery, and GI surgery is preferred. PICC line management and previous charge experience are advantageous. Community hospital experience is preferred. Patient Diagnoses: Sepsis DKA COPD Heart Failure Special Procedures/Unit Details: Central line insertion, chest tubes, arterial lines, and invasive monitoring are required skills. Special Equipment: Familiarity with tele-ICU and remote patient monitoring systems is necessary. Patient Age Groups: Adults and geriatrics. Daily census is approximately 8 patients. Candidates must be open to floating to different units as needed. Weekend coverage is required, with a minimum of 6 weekend shifts per contract.
