Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 16 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Current nursing license required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Minimum of 2 years of experience required First-time travelers accepted Locals accepted Description: The Registered Nurse will work in a busy Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit. The position requires strong clinical skills in patient care. The Registered Nurse will be responsible for managing patient care and interpreting dysrhythmias. Skills required include telemetry remote monitoring and management of rapid response/code teams. Experience with bowel obstruction and colostomy/ileostomy management is essential. Feeding tube care and management, as well as pre/post hemodialysis management, is required. The nurse should have experience managing patients with renal failure and blood product administration. Qualifications include the ability to perform central line blood draws and peripheral line care/management. Phlebotomy skills and the ability to start and maintain IVs are necessary. The nurse will be responsible for administering medications including heparin and insulin. Experience with PCA, chest tubes, and non-invasive airway management is preferred. Skills in oxygen administration, using oxygen tanks, and understanding isolation precautions are required. Wound care and experience with wound vacs is essential. The ability to monitor patients during night shifts with a patient ratio of 1:6 is expected. The nurse may be required to float to other units as needed. Weekend coverage is mandatory every other weekend. Candidates must be willing to work during catastrophic events or disasters. Patient diagnoses include but are not limited to diabetes, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, and surgical recovery cases. Knowledge of electronic documentation is preferred. Candidates should have experience with various aspects of patient care in a fast-paced environment. Preffered certifications include ACLS and telemetry experience.
