Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: Registered Nurse (RN) Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour night shift Hours per Shift: 48 hours Experience: Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required License: Active RN license Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - General Med/Tele skill set - Stroke experience - Cardiac rhythm interpretation - Trach care - Peripheral IV starts - Chest tube management - NGT placement - Drain/tube management (e.g., Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management) - PCA pump management - Medication drip management (including cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, IV fluids) Description: The position is for an RN in a MedSurg/Tele unit. The facility has 207 licensed beds and does not have a trauma designation. It is not a teaching hospital. The unit provides care for patients with various conditions, including end-stage renal disease, fluid overload, sickle cell disease, diabetes mellitus, altered mental status, cellulitis, diabetic ulcers, and pancreatitis. Behavioral health patients may also be encountered. Patient-to-nurse ratios are typically 1:5–6, with critical surge ratios of 1:7–8. Certified nursing assistants have a ratio of 1:6–12. Support staff within the department includes CNAs, receptionists, and charge nurses, who may or may not have patient assignments. Phlebotomy services for peripheral blood draws are available, and a resource nurse is present as staffing allows. The hospitalist and intensivist teams are available 24/7, with staffing levels varying by day of the week. Telemetry monitoring is provided. Floating may be required to other units based on regional needs, and travel time between facilities will be compensated. The scheduling includes a weekend rotation of every other weekend, and travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays. Requests for time off can be approved for up to 6 days, excluding holidays. Scrub color is navy.
