Registered Nurse - Med Surg/Oncology Telemetry

Shift Type: Night, 3x12-hour nights per week, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM (Night); schedule may rotate and assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period — orientation week 1 is Mon-Fri days, week 2 is 36 hours on-unit with a preceptor

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-acuity med-surg and oncology care on a mixed PCU/MS Tele unit, delivering safe, patient-centered nursing
- Continuously monitor telemetry and interpret/manage dysrhythmias to support timely interventions
- Manage IV therapy, start and maintain peripheral IVs, and care for PICC/central lines including central line blood draws
- Administer blood products and manage Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI), PCA and Alaris pump therapies as needed
- Follow strict infection prevention and isolation precautions to protect patients and staff
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (PT, Respiratory, Pharmacy, Social Work, Radiology) to coordinate complex care
- Participate in rapid response/code teams and escalate care appropriately for emergency situations
- Support professional development by engaging in available training (e.g., chemotherapy course) and mentoring newer staff
Knowledge & Skills
- Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
- Med-Surg and oncology patient care, including care for solid tumor and hematologic cancer patients
- IV therapy, IV starts, peripheral IV and PICC/central line management
- Blood product administration and central line blood draws
- Use of Alaris pumps, PCA pumps, bladder scanner, and CBI management
- Familiarity with respiratory supports: HFNC, BiPAP/CPAP, tracheostomy care, chest tube care
- Infection prevention, isolation precautions, and fall prevention protocols
- Comfort working with high-acuity patients and participating in rapid response/code situations
