Job Summary:
The Medical Surgical with Telemetry (MS TELE) registered nurse position is located in Peoria, Illinois. This role involves providing specialized patient care on a dedicated neuro unit within an acute care setting. The RN will be responsible for managing neuro-related diagnoses, including stroke, spine surgery, seizure activity, brain tumors, and head injuries, with an emphasis on telemetry monitoring and stable COVID-19 care when applicable.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: Active Illinois nursing license or confirmation that application has been initiated, BLS (American Heart Association), NIHSS certification, at least 1 year of nursing experience, previous travel experience (no first-time travelers), experience working on a dedicated neurology unit, and level 1 trauma experience.
  • Responsibilities: Managing patient care for neuro patients, including titratable drips such as Heparin with experience in GTT management. RN may troubleshoot high flow oxygen devices; no routine responsibilities with Vents, Cpap, Bipap, or High Flow unless stable COVID cases arise. Reading telemetry strips is required; monitors are Phillips brand.
  • Staffing and Operational Details: Charge nurses are on duty 24/7 and do not take assignments unless staffing necessitates. House supervisors are also available 24/7. Patient care techs and nurse aids are present based on ratios: day 1:9-10, evening 1:9-10, night 1:10-12. Float in rotation with other staff, with skills competency required for outside unit assignments in urgent cases.
  • Additional Notes: Orientation consists of 2 days for computer and unit-specific training, plus 1 day caring for patients with a preceptor. No scrub color requirement; tattoos must be covered; piercings are limited to ears. No call or standby required; every other weekend and holiday shifts are mandated.
