Registered Nurse – Medical/Surgical Telemetry (Pulmonary Unit)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Medical/Surgical Telemetry Registered Nurse to join the Pulmonary Unit for a 13-week travel assignment. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in telemetry and respiratory patient management, with the ability to provide high-quality care for adults and geriatric patients experiencing complex pulmonary and cardiac conditions.

This is a fast-paced, team-oriented environment where nurses collaborate closely with respiratory therapy, physical therapy, and rapid response teams to deliver optimal outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct care to patients with acute respiratory and cardiac diagnoses including respiratory failure, CHF, COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, sepsis, pulmonary fibrosis, and interstitial lung disease.

  • Monitor cardiac rhythms, recognize and manage dysrhythmias, and administer prescribed cardiac medications.

  • Manage and maintain central lines, PICC lines, and peripheral IVs.

  • Administer blood products and manage heparin and insulin protocols (including IV insulin drips).

  • Perform respiratory care including tracheostomy management, oxygen therapy, BiPAP/CPAP, and high-flow nasal cannula.

  • Provide post-hemodialysis and continuous bladder irrigation (CBI) management as needed.

  • Participate in rapid response situations and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for coordinated patient care.

  • Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in Epic (preferred).

  • Patient Ratio: Nights 6–7:1 (may stretch to 8–10 if short-staffed).

  • Float: Yes — within scope of practice.

  • Call: Required as needed.

  • Weekends: Every other weekend.

  • Orientation: 4 hours classroom + on-unit orientation; modules completed prior to start.

  • Scrub Color: Navy blue or white.

  • Locals: Not accepted (must be >75 miles from facility).

Unit Environment
  • Support Services: IV team, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, social work, radiology, pharmacy, and unit secretary support.

  • Equipment Used: BiPAP, CPAP, high-flow oxygen, chronic ventilators, tracheostomy equipment, chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac).

  • Team Support: PCTs perform vitals, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and ADLs; phlebotomy team handles peripheral lab draws.
