Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year MedSurg/Tele experience required License: RN Certifications: BLS; ACLS preferred Must-Have: Experience with ortho patients, CBI, NG tube placement/management, Foley placement/management, chest tube management, and wound care. Ability to perform central line/ports/midline blood draws and cardiac rhythm interpretation. Experience with drips such as Cardizem, amiodarone, heparin, Lasix, and insulin. Description: Position is for a nursing role in a Medical Surgical setting. The facility is a Level IV Trauma Center. The unit has 33 beds with an average patient census of 24-26 per day. Patient population is primarily geriatric with common diagnoses including: Post-operative orthopedic procedures like total hips and total knees. Post-operative urological procedures such as TURPs and cystoscopies. Post-operative general surgeries like ostomies, gallbladder surgeries, appendectomies, and colectomies. General medical cases including CHF, COPD, respiratory, kidney, liver, GI issues, CIWA, IVDA, diabetes, and cardiac overflow. Patient ratios are as follows: Days: 1 RN to 4-5 patients. Nights: 1 RN to 6-7 patients, can occasionally go up to 1:8 but this is not common. CNA ratios are: Days: 1 CNA to 5-6 patients. Nights: 1 CNA to 7-8 patients. Support within the department includes a Charge RN who takes a reduced patient assignment, a Health Unit Coordinator until 1900, and 24/7 respiratory therapy. Additional support from hospitalists, OT/PT/ST during the day, and centralized tele monitoring with tele techs. Technology used includes an EMR system. Preference for candidates with experience using this electronic medical record system. Equipment includes IV pumps and medication dispensing systems, with specific unit equipment like CPMs and virtual monitoring. Possible floating to other units for MedSurg patient assignments, including ER hold and ICU. Scheduling involves weekend rotations every other week and holiday expectations of 50% as per contract. Approval of time-off requests goes through management. Shift times include both day and night shifts with a cyclical schedule made in advance. Professional appearance is required; scrub color must be a solid professional tone with no graphics or logos. The unit culture promotes engagement and teamwork among night shift staff.
