Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical/Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 1 year required License: New York license required Certifications: BLS required Must-Have: Mandatory competency in phlebotomy and IV placement Description: Registered Nurses need to have a mandatory competency with phlebotomy as well as placing IVs. This is a required skill for any RN in this specialty. Day/evening patient ratios are 5 to 1, with potential stretches to 6-7. Night ratios are expected to be 6-7 to 1, with stretches of 8-10 if staff calls in. There are Patient Care Technicians on all units that perform vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and activities of daily living. First-time travelers are accepted for this position. Weekend requirements include working every other weekend. RNs will need to float to meet facility needs and float between similar units. The preferred charting system is Epic. Patient diagnoses include colon cancer, intestinal obstructions, breast cancer, morbid obesity, cholecystitis, and appendicitis. Additional skills include the interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, use of Rapid Response Teams, peripheral line care and management, nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management. Isolation precautions must be followed in patient care. Travelers will be required to float between medical/surgical units. RNs in this role will have interdisciplinary support from various teams including IV, physical therapy, respiratory services, and pharmacy. It is expected that RNs will adhere to established protocols for patient care and safety. Computerized documentation is required for daily tasks and patient care notes.
