Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical/Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year of recent experience required License: New York license required in hand to submit applicants Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Mandatory competency with phlebotomy and placing IVs required. Description: Registered Nurses need to have a mandatory competency with phlebotomy as well as placing IVs, as this is a required skill. Patient ratios for day/evening shifts are 5 to 1, with potential to stretch to 6-7. Night ratios are expected to be 6-7 to 1, stretching to 8-10 if staff calls in. Patients typically present with cardiac and stroke diagnoses. The unit staff includes Patient Care Technicians who perform vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and assistance with activities of daily living. RNs will be required to float within scope to meet facility needs between Medical/Surgical units, ICU, and Emergency Department. Patients are adults and geriatrics. The unit is supported by interdisciplinary teams including IV Teams, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Interpretation Services, Radiology, Social Services, and Pharmacy. Clinical skills required include interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, use of rapid response teams, and non-invasive airway management. Isolation precautions and personal protective equipment usage are necessary. Proficiency in electronic health record systems is preferred, specifically Epic. RNs must have the ability to perform peripheral line care and management, and be comfortable with oxygen administration using nasal cannula and face masks.
