Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years of acute care experience License: Active state nursing license required Certifications: Current BLS certification, ACLS certification, and NIHSS certification preferred Must-Have: Telemetry experience Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias Description: Please ensure the traveler is aware of potential emergency assignments. The unit manager may assign the traveler to an emergency team, with expectations to remain on-site until the event passes or serve on a relief team. Specific details related to pay during emergency events will be communicated as needed. Travelers must be comfortable with the requirement to report for duty as assigned in case of emergencies. Unit patients commonly present with diagnoses such as chest pain, coronary artery disease, diabetes mellitus, peripheral vascular disease, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease exacerbations. Other conditions may include COVID-19, transient ischemic attack, stroke, hypertension, atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, bradycardia, tachycardia, and rhythm management with cardiac drips not titrated for blood pressure. The unit also manages cases of wound infections, cellulitis, and gastrointestinal bleeding. Special procedures performed on the unit include: Pre- and post-cardiac catheterization, with no sheath pulls, Management and monitoring of pacemakers, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators, and LINQ recorders. General surgical procedures such as esophagogastroduodenoscopy, colonoscopy, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, wound debridement, chest tube insertion, central line catheter insertion, thoracentesis, and paracentesis. Special equipment utilized includes telemetry monitoring, chest tubes, and wound vacs. Interdisciplinary support is provided by physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, pharmacy, and transportation. Daily census includes 24 patients, with a patient ratio of 6:1. Flexibility is needed, as travelers may be floated to other inpatient units based on staffing needs. Resources with previous permanent staff status must have a one-year separation before returning.
