Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Duration: Short-term assignment Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 hours (6:45 am to 7:15 pm) Experience: Minimum of two years in Med-Surg/Tele nursing License: Active RN license in the applicable state Certifications: - Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - Basic Life Support (BLS) - NIH Stroke Scale Must-Have: - Patient care - Nursing process - Assessment - Planning - Intervention Description: The Registered Nurse performs under the direct supervision of the Patient Care Coordinator. The Registered Nurse will be assigned tasks to achieve quality patient care. The nursing process will be implemented in an organized, systematic manner by the Registered Nurse. This includes assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in collaboration with the Patient Care Coordinator, physicians, and ancillary staff. Documentation in the Patient Care Record will evidence the care provided. Direct observation by the Nurse Manager and patient evaluations will also support this documentation. The Registered Nurse is responsible for patient care and ultimately accountable to the Nurse Manager. Additional duties may be assigned by the Patient Care Coordinator and/or Patient Care Manager. The Registered Nurse must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served. They must assess and intervene appropriately when a patient's condition worsens and requires immediate attention. Knowledge of principles of growth and development is essential to assess data reflective of the patient's status. This includes interpreting the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's needs and provide necessary care. The Registered Nurse must perform all technical skills required for the unit's population. This includes administering medications, starting intravenous access, maintaining intravenous lines and Foley catheters, venipuncture, and administering blood products. The Registered Nurse must also perform both complex and routine treatments as ordered by the physician. Technical aptitude for working and troubleshooting equipment used is expected. This includes traction, wound vacuum systems, sequential compression devices, continuous passive motion machines, telemetry monitoring devices, blood glucose monitoring devices, and specialty beds. Safe positioning and assistance for patients using various devices are required. Documentation, bedside shift reports, and verbal communication must be thorough, concise, and timely. Effective communication of pertinent patient information to all healthcare team members is necessary. The Registered Nurse is expected to maintain their clinical skills and stay current in competencies, equipment, and certifications required in their nursing area. Embracing and practicing a culture of caring through compassionate care, teamwork, and courtesy in all interactions with customers is essential. A systematic and comprehensive plan of care must be implemented to provide individualized care and prompt intervention when clinical changes occur. Adherence to and promotion of established values, including customer service, safety, and compliance standards, is required. Financial responsibility by using supplies efficiently and ensuring timely patient discharges should be demonstrated. All employees must maintain a professional appearance, including natural or neutral hair colors. Every other weekend availability is required. The role may involve floating to any Med-Surg/Tele unit as needed. Ratios will reflect current staffing levels. These Registered Nurses will not be assigned emergency department patients. Shifts will include working 36 hours or 48-hour schedules without PTO.
