Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty License: Compact or state license required Certifications: - BLS - ACLS - CPI (if applicable) - NIHSS (if applicable) Must-Have: - Telemetry interpretation and management of dysrhythmias - Post angiogram, MI, cardiac catheterization, and sheath removal care - Management of cardiac drips and vasoactive drips - Blood product administration - Central line, peripheral line, and PICC line care/management - Isolation precautions and wound care/management Description: The registered nurse will work in a medical-surgical/telemetry setting. The unit accommodates travelers with a minimum of 2 years of experience. Patient diagnoses include chest pain, coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease, arrhythmias, diabetes mellitus, COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, hypertension, myocardial infarction, renal failure, pulmonary embolism, congestive heart failure, gastrointestinal bleed, and syncope. There is always the potential for med-surg overflow situations such as GI bleed, sepsis, stroke, and COVID-19 patients. Special procedures include pre/post catheterization lab interventions, device management, vascular surgeries, and titration of various drips. The role includes bedside sheath pulling and supporting interdepartmental functions. The registered nurse may assist with patient transfers to other inpatient units and will be scheduled for every other holiday. There are no guarantees for specific scheduling requests such as block scheduling. Telemetry monitoring and various specialized equipment will be utilized. The position involves a patient ratio of 6:1. The nurse will work closely with an interdisciplinary team including physical therapy, respiratory services, social services, pharmacy, and more. Preferred experience includes using the Epic electronic health record system. The nurse must be able to handle the demands of both routine and emergency situations.
