Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Med-Surg/Telemetry Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years in specialty License: Compact or state license required Certifications: - BLS - ACLS - CPI - NIHSS Must-Have: - Telemetry interpretation and management of dysrhythmias - Chest tube management - Pre/post cardiac catheterization care - Blood product administration - IV starts and management of central and peripheral lines Description: Please ensure the traveler is aware of the following. Upon accepting an assignment and starting the role, the unit manager may assign the traveler to an "Emergency Team." There may be an expectation to stay at the facility until after an event passes or be part of the relief team. Specific details pertaining to pay will be relayed for each emergency event, as impacts vary. By signing the travel contract, the traveler accepts the above and will report as assigned by their immediate unit manager in the event of an emergency. Travelers should not apply for a role if they are uncomfortable with the above information. The unit accommodates first-timers with a minimum of 2 years of experience. Patient diagnoses include chest pain, coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease, arrhythmias, diabetes mellitus, COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, hypertension, myocardial infarction, renal failure, pulmonary embolism, chronic heart failure, gastrointestinal bleed, and syncope. There is always a potential for med-surg overflow, including but not limited to GI bleed, sepsis, cerebrovascular accident, and COVID-19 positive cases. Special procedures/unit details include pre/post cardiac catheterization, pacemaker management, ablations, and vascular surgeries. Travelers will be expected to titrate drips, including Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Nitroglycerin, Dopamine, and Heparin. Sheath pull will take place at the bedside. Every other holiday, the traveler can be assigned to other inpatient units. There is no guarantee for specific scheduling requests. Key required skills include: - Monitoring of telemetry patients - Administering IV medications - Managing isolation precautions - Comprehensive wound care Additional unit details: The staffing ratio is 6 patients per nurse. Interdisciplinary support is available, including physical therapy, respiratory services, social services, and pharmacy. The daily census is 24 patients with 24 beds available.
