Duration = 13 weeks
Shift= 3*12 Nights 36 hours a week

  • 874-bed Level I Trauma Center
  • Teaching hospital with advanced specialty services
  • Certified Chest Pain Center & Stroke Center
  • High-acuity patient population
  • Traveler radius rule: Must reside 50+ miles from facility
Unit Details
  • 36-bed MedSurg/Telemetry unit
  • Resource Team environment (float support within region)
  • High-acuity neuro and spine patient population
  • First-time travelers considered (not preferred)
‍⚕️ Patient Population / Diagnoses
  • Post-op spinal surgery & spinal fusion (high acuity)
  • Stroke, seizures, altered mental status (AMS)
  • Myasthenia Gravis
  • Brain tumors and neurological conditions
Patient Ratios
  • RN: 1:4–6 (based on acuity)
    • Surge staffing may increase up to 1:7–8
  • CNA: Varies by shift and census
Requirements
  • Active RN License
  • Minimum 2 years MedSurg/Telemetry experience
  • Certifications:
    • BLS
    • ACLS
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
Required Skills
  • Cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • Stroke and neuro assessment
  • Trach care & airway management
  • IV starts (PIV) & medication administration
  • Chest tube management
  • NG/Dobhoff/PEG tube care
  • Drain management (JP, Hemovac, Foley, Flexiseal)
  • PCA pumps & pain management (including complex cases)
  • Post-op spine/neuro care & patient education
  • IV drips (cardiac, heparin, blood products, fluids)
Support Staff
  • CNAs (variable ratios)
  • Charge Nurse (24/7)
  • Respiratory Therapy (24/7)
  • Hospitalist & Intensivist coverage (24/7)
  • IV/Vascular Access Team
  • Phlebotomy (peripheral draws)
  • No telemetry tech – nurses monitor rhythms
Technology

  • IV Pumps: Alaris
  • Medication Dispensing: Omnicell
  • Monitoring Equipment: Masimo & Phillips
Floating Requirements
  • Required to float within assigned region (Region 2 or 3)
  • May float to multiple facilities within system
  • Floating is within scope of practice
  • Paid travel time if floating mid-shift
Orientation
  • New Employee Orientation (NEO)
  • 2 days unit/department-specific orientation
Scheduling & Policies
  • Every other weekend required
  • Travelers must work 75% of holidays
  • Up to 6 days RTO allowed (excluding holidays)
  • Maximum of 2 call-offs per 13-week contract
