Job Title: MedSurg/Telemetry RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: MedSurg/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 18 months Med/Tele RN experience required License: RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - General Med/Tele skillset - Stroke experience - Cardiac rhythm interpretation - Tracheostomy care - Peripheral IV starts - Chest tube management - Nasogastric tube placement - Drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management) - PCA pump management - Medication drip management (include cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, IV fluids) Description: This position involves working in a surgical telemetry unit. The unit consists of 26 beds. Patient types include general medical telemetry overflow and surgical patients. Common diagnoses include bariatric weight loss surgery, urology procedures, general post-operative care, abdominal surgeries, gastrointestinal bleeds, small bowel obstructions, and foot and ankle surgeries. Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:5-6, with 1:7-8 during critical surge times. Certified Nursing Assistants may be available to support nursing staff. Support within the department includes charge nurses who may or may not handle patients and phlebotomy technicians for blood draws. Telemetry monitoring will be conducted by a dedicated technician. The facility utilizes EMR systems for documentation and has specific equipment such as IV pumps, medication dispensing systems, and patient monitors. Floating to other units may be required based on regional needs, within the scope of practice. Travelers may be compensated for travel time between facilities if floating mid-shift. Weekend rotation is required every other weekend, and travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays. Requests for time off can be made for up to 6 days, excluding holidays. Schedules are cycled every 6 weeks. Scrub color for nursing staff is navy.
