Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years Med/Tele RN experience preferred License: Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: General Med/Tele skillset, stroke experience, cardiac rhythm interpretation, tracheostomy care, peripheral IV starts, chest tube management, nasogastric tube placement, drain/tube management, foley insertion/management, medication drip management including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, IV fluids. Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in Medical-Surgical/Telemetry. The facility has 874 licensed beds and is a Level I Trauma Teaching Hospital. The unit specializes in Head/Neck and GI surgeries, including tracheostomies, laryngectomies, hernia repairs, colorectal surgery, cholecystectomies, appendectomies, and ostomy takedowns among other procedures. Patient ratios are typically RN: 1:4-6, with more complex surgical staffing potentially increasing this to 1:7-8. CNA ratios vary. Charge nurses and resource nurses are available 24/7. Telemetry monitoring is conducted by nurses who read monitors and respond as needed. The EMR system used is EPIC, and IV pumps are Alaris. Med dispensing is done through Omnicell, with Philips monitors for patient observation. Weekend rotation is every other weekend, with no call for travelers. Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays. Requests for time off can be approved for up to 6 days, excluding holidays, and must be added to the end of the contract if hours cannot be met. Scrubs are navy in color.
