Job Title: MedSurg/Tele RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 18 months Med/Tele RN experience required License: Current Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: General Medical/Telemetry skill set, including stroke experience, cardiac rhythm interpretation, tracheostomy care, peripheral IV starts, chest tube management, nasogastric tube placement, and drain/tube management. Experience with patient-controlled analgesia pumps and medication management, including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and intravenous fluids. Description: The facility has 207 licensed beds and is a Chest Pain and Stroke Center. It is not a teaching hospital and has no trauma designation. The registered nurse will be assigned to the Surgical Telemetry unit, which has a patient capacity of 26 beds. Patient types include general medical telemetry and surgical patients. Common diagnoses encompass bariatric weight loss surgery, urology procedures, general postoperative care, abdominal surgeries, gastrointestinal bleeding, small bowel obstruction, and foot and ankle surgeries. Patient ratios are 1:5-6, with critical surge ratios of 1:7-8 for registered nurses. The certified nursing assistant ratio varies from 1:6 to 1:12. Support staff includes a certified nursing assistant, receptionist/health unit coordinator, and charge nurse, who may or may not have patients. Phlebotomy services for peripheral blood draws are available. An IV/VAT team operates from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. Resource nursing is provided as staffing allows. Hospitalist and intensivist teams are available 24/7 until designated hours. Telemetry monitoring and technology include EMR systems and IV dispensing equipment. Registered nurses may be required to float to various units as per staffing needs and may receive compensation for travel time. Weekend rotation is every other weekend, and holiday expectations require travelers to work 75% of holidays. Request time off may be approved for up to 6 days, excluding holidays. Contracts are scheduled every six weeks. Scrub colors will be navy.
