Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: MedSurg/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years MedSurg/Telemetry RN experience required License: Required RN license Certifications: BLS required; ACLS preferred Must-Have: - Certification in MedSurg is a plus - Telemetry skills required including monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms - Experience with various drips such as insulin, heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone, milrinone, Digoxin, and nicardipine Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in MedSurg/Telemetry. The facility has 637 licensed beds and is designated as a Level 1 Trauma center. It operates as a teaching hospital with capabilities as a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center. Each Med Surg unit consists of 20-36 beds, with the RN patient ratio typically being 1:4-6. The patient population consists of individuals with acute and chronic diseases as well as co-morbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, and infections. Common patient types also include cardiac patients and post-surgical recovery cases. Nursing support includes assistance from CNAs, Unit Secretaries, and resource nurses. Telemetry monitoring is conducted in a central unit, with respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and intensivists available 24/7. The electronic medical record system utilized is EPIC, along with IV pumps and medication dispensing systems. The nurse will be required to float to all MedSurg/Telemetry units as needed. Weekend rotation consists of 5-6 weekend shifts out of 12 on a 6-week schedule. Nurses are expected to work one shift of each major holiday. Requests for time off must be approved through management. The unit culture is characterized as busy and team-oriented.
