Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Telemetry Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: MedSurg/Telemetry Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of MedSurg/Telemetry experience License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS required; ACLS preferred Must-Have: - Strong assessment and time management skills - Ability to monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms - Experience managing post-cath patients and groin site care Description: We are seeking a Registered Nurse specializing in MedSurg/Telemetry. Our facility features 637 licensed beds and holds a Level 1 Trauma Designation. We serve as a teaching hospital with specialized centers for chest pain and stroke. The MedSurg/Telemetry unit consists of 20-36 beds, handling a variety of patient types and common diagnoses. Patients may present with acute or chronic diseases, diabetes, hypertension, infections, electrolyte imbalances, and cardiac issues, including post-cath and CHF. Post-surgical patients, including general, orthopedic, and trauma cases, are also common within the unit. Patient ratios are typically 1:4-6 for RNs and LPNs, and up to 1:14 for CNAs. Support personnel include CNAs, unit secretaries, and a resource nurse team. Nursing staff will coordinate care within an interdisciplinary team and engage in discharge planning and patient education. Required skills include trach care, chest tube management, IV starts and maintenance, glucommander use, and drip management for medications like insulin, heparin, and amiodarone. The department offers 24/7 access to respiratory therapy and hospital or intensivist coverage for patient needs. The technology used includes an EMR system, IV pumps, and central telemetry monitoring. Nurses will be required to float to various MedSurg/Telemetry units as needed. Scheduling involves 5-6 weekend shifts out of 12 in a six-week cycle and holiday expectations for major holidays. The unit culture is busy and team-oriented. Scrub color for RNs is navy.
