Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required. License: RN Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience - BLS certification - ACLS certification - NIHSS certification Description: The facility has 457 licensed beds and is a Trauma Level III Teaching Hospital. It is certified as a Chest Pain Center and a Stroke Center of Excellence. The unit consists of 14 private rooms with no negative pressure capability. The patient population will transition this summer from Med/Tele to PCU focus. Common patient types include those with heart failure, chest pain, and those requiring fluid resuscitation or blood products. Additional diagnoses may include COPD and post-cardiac catheterization care. Patient ratios for RN staff are typically 1:4-6, depending on acuity, with surge times potentially increasing to 1:7-8 in Med/Surg/Tele settings and 1:4 in PCU settings. Required skills include PIV starts, NG tube placement and management, pleurx drains, management of various surgical drains, chest tube management, cardiac rhythm interpretation, and managing non-titratable cardiac drips. Support within the department includes CNAs assisting with activities of daily living, bathing, foley care, mobility, and turning/repositioning. CNA staff are also trained to perform phlebotomy and 12 lead EKGs. A resource nurse is available when staffing allows. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 and hospitalists are present 24/7, although not unit-based. Telemetry monitoring is performed remotely, with visual capabilities at the nurses' station. The facility uses Epic for electronic medical records. IV pumps are managed using Alaris, and medication dispensing is done through Omnicell. Unit-specific equipment includes a bladder scanner, EKG machine, and transport monitor. Floating is expected within the region and scope of practice. Scheduling requires weekend rotation every other week with holiday work expected for 75% of holidays. Requests for time off can be approved for up to 6 days, excluding holidays. The unit culture is professional and team-oriented.
