Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience License: Current RN license Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience; BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Description: Licensed for 457 beds. Level 3 Trauma facility. Designated Stroke Center of Excellence. Designated Bariatric Center of Excellence. Designated Chest Pain Center. 44 beds on the unit with a census of 44. Patient age of 18 years and older. Common diagnoses include respiratory illnesses, GI illnesses, sepsis, CHF, diabetes, placement issues, and behavioral health. Patient ratios for RNs are 1:4-6; during surge times, could increase to 1:7-8. Required skills include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, wound care, plurex catheter management, and strong communication skills. CNA trained to perform additional skills such as foley catheter insertion and removal, PIV removal, oxygen set-up, bolus tube feeds, EKG, bladder scan, finger stick blood sugar, and peripheral blood draw. Unit Secretary available during day shift only. Charge nurse role excludes assignment when staffing allows. RN performs central line management, with peripheral sticks done by CNA, and IV/VAT Team available for difficult IV starts and central line dressing changes. Respiratory Therapy is assigned to the unit 24/7, providing all respiratory treatments. Hospitalist services are available 24/7, with cross coverage at night. Intensivist consults are available 24/7 as needed. Telemetry monitoring is conducted remotely. Electronic medical records system used is EPIC. IV pump technology includes Alaris. Med dispensing system is Omnicell. Patient safety monitoring is done through Patient Safety Net (PSN). Floating within the region and scope of practice is required. Adherence to a weekend rotation schedule every other week is expected. Travelers will work 75% of holidays. Requests for time off can be approved up to 6 days, excluding holidays, with the requirement to add time to the end of the contract if unable to meet contracted hours. Shift times are either 0645-1900 or 1845-0700 with a schedule cycle of every 6 weeks. Scrub color is navy blue. The unit culture promotes a positive learning environment and teamwork among staff.
