Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical/Surgical Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience required License: Active registered nurse license required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS required Must-Have: - Must have at least 1 year of EPIC experience - No first-time travelers Description: Shift hours are 18:45 to 07:15, 3 times a week. Weekend coverage is required every other weekend. Floating is required and may be assigned to other units based on need and skill set. Staffing ratios for nights are 1 nurse for every 6 patients. The patient age group includes adults and geriatrics. Medication system utilized is Omnicell. Patient diagnoses include stroke, TIA, seizure, syncope, pneumonia, chest pain, dialysis, acute kidney failure, post-heart catheterization, respiratory failure, encephalopathy, congestive heart failure, and sepsis. This is the inpatient unit for stroke and TIA patients. The unit also accepts higher acuity medical-surgical patients. Focus is highly placed on patient experience. Peritoneal dialysis and continuous bladder irrigation are performed in this unit. Skills required include accessing and managing ports, BiPAP/CPAP management, blood product administration, central line blood draws, managing chest tubes, colostomy and ileostomy care, continuous bladder irrigation, CVA management, feeding tube care, heparin management, interpreting dysrhythmias, isolation precautions, managing cardiac drips without titration, telemetry monitoring, and use of rapid response teams. Daily census typically involves 27 patients. The unit comprises 30 rooms and beds. Interdisciplinary support includes IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and unit secretary support. Candidates must be qualified for any floating assignments, performing tasks for which competencies have already been demonstrated and documented. Travelers must have one or more years of recent experience in a comparable unit.
