You will be assigned a home unit on the first day of orientation. The unit is designed to accommodate overflow, supporting all inpatient units and emergency department holding. Common diagnoses include congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chest pain workup, and respiratory issues. The nurse-to-patient ratio will typically be 1:5-6, with a critical surge ratio of 1:7-8. The support team will include certified nursing assistants and a charge nurse, who may or may not have patient responsibilities. The role involves collaboration with phlebotomy, IV/VAT teams, hospitalists, and intensivists. Telemetry monitoring will be part of daily operations, using various technologies and equipment such as electronic medical records and IV pumps. Floating between units will be necessary based on regional needs, and travelers will receive compensation while traveling between facilities. Weekends will involve a rotation every other week, with expectations to work 75% of holidays. Requests for time off are permitted, with conditions applied to contracted hours. Scheduling will follow a six-week cycle. Scrub color required is navy.
