Job Title: Registered Nurse - MedSurg/Tele Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience License: Required RN License Certifications: BLS required; ACLS preferred; Basic Cardiac Rhythm required Must-Have: Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills for a Level 1 Trauma Hospital Experience in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, insulin drips, and heparin drips Ability to perform cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation Demonstrated skills in wound care and post-operative monitoring Experience in discharge planning and patient education, particularly on renal and fluid management Description: Position requires a Registered Nurse specializing in MedSurg/Tele. The facility has 637 licensed beds and holds a Level 1 Trauma Designation. It is a teaching hospital that operates as a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center. The unit has 35 beds and currently sees a census of 35 patients. Patient types and common diagnoses include orthopedic and trauma injuries, head trauma, and patients with acute or chronic diseases. Post-operative care is critical, as well as managing patients with common comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, and CHF. Patient ratios will be 1 RN to 4-6 patients, with LPNs and CNAs available to assist. CNA duties include assisting with vital signs, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, and ambulating patients. Receptionist coverage is provided days, with a house-wide call secretary overnight. The hospital offers 24/7 respiratory therapy and hospitalist services. Telemetry monitoring is conducted through a central telemetry unit. The facility utilizes an electronic medical records system and various medical technologies. Nurses will need to float between adult med-surg and telemetry units. Weekend rotation includes 5-6 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule. Holiday expectations include working one shift during major holidays. Requests for time off require manager approval. Scrub colors designated for RNs are navy. The work environment is fast-paced, with an emphasis on teamwork.
