Job Title: Registered Nurse - MedSurg/Telemetry Profession: RN Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years MedSurg/Telemetry RN experience required License: Required Certifications: BLS required, ACLS preferred Must-Have: Certification in MedSurg is a plus Description: Registered Nurse - MedSurg/Telemetry position available. The facility is a Level 1 Trauma Designation and Teaching Hospital. The unit has a total of 20-36 beds on each MedSurg unit. Common patient diagnoses include acute or chronic diseases. Co-morbidities often seen include diabetes, hypertension, and infections. Cardiac patients such as post-catheterization and CHF are common. Post-surgical patients from General, Ortho, and Trauma surgeries are also treated. Patient ratios are set at 1:4-6 for RNs, LPNs, and CNAs. Basic Life Support certification is required. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification is preferred. Travelers must pass an EKG competency exam during onboarding. Essential skills include trach care, chest tube management, IV starts, and maintenance. Strong assessment and time management skills are necessary. Care coordination with the interdisciplinary team is vital. Knowledge of discharge planning and patient education is required. Telemetry skills include monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms. Experience with post-cath care and groin site management is essential. RNs will manage and titrate specific medication drips as needed. Support from CNAs includes vital signs checks, patient safety, and assisting with activities of daily living. Unit Secretaries will be available on-site during peak hours. Charge nurses may or may not have patient assignments. Phlebotomy services are primarily handled by lab technicians. RNs may draw blood from central venous lines. A dedicated Resource Nurse team is available for support. Respiratory Therapy and Hospitalist services are available 24/7. Telemetry monitoring is conducted in a central unit. The EMR system used is EPIC. The unit is equipped with essential monitoring and medication dispensing technologies. Travelers may be required to float to all MedSurg/Tele units as needed. Shift scheduling includes working 5-6 weekend shifts out of 12 on a 6-week schedule. Holidays will require one shift of each major holiday. Requests for time off must go through the manager for approval. The working environment is described as busy and team-oriented.
