Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality Med Surg and orthopedic nursing care to adult patients
- Collaborate with surgical teams and allied health staff to coordinate patient care
- Perform thorough patient assessments and develop individualized care plans
- Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately
- Document patient status and interventions clearly in the chart, Epic preferred
- Support patient education and discharge planning to improve outcomes
- Float to other Med Surg units as needed to maintain safe staffing and continuity of care
Qualifications
- Active RN license in Illinois or compact state (typical requirement for practice)
- 2+ years of Med Surg and/or orthopedic nursing experience
- Prior surgical nursing experience or comfort working with postoperative patients
- BLS required; ACLS or other advanced certifications helpful
- Epic experience preferred
- Ability to work nights and commit to every other weekend rotation
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong Med Surg and orthopedic clinical knowledge
- Postoperative and surgical nursing skills
- Proficiency or comfort with Epic electronic health record
- Excellent clinical judgment and critical thinking
- Clear communication with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams
- Flexibility to float among Med Surg units when needed
