Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Medical Surgical / Orthopedics Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS Must-Have: - Candidates may not be full time, part time, or PRN with any associated facility. - Driver's license is required for submission. - Artificial nails are prohibited in all departments providing patient care. - Nurse will pass a skills exam during orientation. - Must achieve a score of 90% to pass the exam or will be terminated. - If placed on call, candidates have 30 minutes to report back if called in. Description: The unit has an average of 22 beds and an average daily census of 6 patients. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5-6. Common diagnoses include total knee replacements, total hip replacements, total shoulder replacements, ankle replacements, and spine surgeries. RNs are not required to titrate drips. Common medications administered include pain medications, antibiotics, and blood. There is a charge nurse on each shift, and they do take on assignments. Patient care technicians are available with a ratio of 1:13. Telemetry technicians will read and interpret strips; nurses are not required to read their own. Shifts run from 0630-1830 and 1830-0630. Self-scheduling is allowed with cyclic rotation. Weekend requirements are every other weekend, and holidays are rotated in with permanent staff. Floating requirements include MedSurg, rehab, or PCU at a MedSurg acuity level. The unit values team-oriented individuals who are flexible, take ownership, and have a willingness to learn. Candidates must provide time-off requests upfront (7 days or fewer per 13-week contract). Additional time-off requests will not be approved after submission. The hospital has the right to cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment. Charting is done using the EPIC system. A BSN is not required for this position. The trauma level of the care setting is 2. This is an acute care division within nursing. The shift notes indicate a 12-hour night schedule. Required certifications include BLS certification.
