Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Orthopedics Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience required License: Must have an active state or compact license Certifications: BLS NIHSS ACLS Must-Have: Orthopedic experience required Patient ratios 1:5 Description: The Registered Nurse utilizes the knowledge gained through education and experience to deliver nursing care. Nursing care is provided using the nursing process according to established policies, procedures, and protocols. The RN responds to life-threatening situations with appropriate nursing interventions. Organization of care delivery includes prioritizing, delegating, delivering, evaluating, and ongoing communication with necessary providers and leaders. The Orthopedic nurse provides specialized care to patients with musculoskeletal issues. This includes care for those recovering from orthopedic surgeries or injuries, managing chronic conditions, and educating patients and families on care and prevention. Patient age groups served are primarily adults. The unit has a daily census of approximately 10 patients. Support services include IV Teams, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Interpretation Services, Phlebotomy, Radiology, Social Services, and Pharmacy. Specific nursing skills required include blood product administration, central line management, colostomy/ileostomy care, feeding tube management, interpretation of dysrhythmias, and more. The RN will also be involved in administering medications, managing surgical drains, and ensuring compliance with isolation precautions.
