Job Summary:
The organization is seeking a Medical Surgical Floor Registered Nurse (RN) for a trauma and orthopedic care unit located in Evansville, Indiana. This position involves providing specialized trauma, orthopedic, and neurological care on a day shift schedule. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day of orientation.
Job Details:
- Shift: 12-hour days, from 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM for a minimum of 36 hours per week
- Required Qualifications: Current active compact license; AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification; at least 2 years of RN experience, including a full year in orthopedic, neuro, or trauma care; one full travel assignment; trauma level II experience; recent Electronic Health Record (EHR) experience in Epic medical record system
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with strong neurological assessments, log rolling patients, applying assistive devices (back braces, immobilizers), tele/12-lead EKG interpretation, PIV insertion, chest tube and drain management, IV drips (heparin, Lasix, Protonix), epidural management, PEGs/NGs, Bucks traction, pin site care, On-Q management, CIWA/BH, wound care (packing, wound vacs)
- Additional Information: The unit has 44 beds with a patient ratio of 1:3-5 during days. The team is supportive, and travelers are treated as part of the staff. The environment may require precepting of students and new hires. The unit treats trauma, orthopedic, and neurological patients, including those with spine or rib fractures, scheduled neck/back surgeries. Float within skillset and cross-campus float to nearby facilities may be required.
- Schedule: 12-hour days, with three call-ins possibly resulting in termination. Holiday rotation is every other holiday.
- Submission Requirements: Must have current active compact license, AHA BLS, and NIHSS certifications.
- Additional notes: Covid-19 vaccination is not required but subject to change. The hours during orientation are not guaranteed, but set hours will be guaranteed during most weeks, excluding holidays when the unit is closed.
