A registered nurse specializing in Medical Surgical (MS) care is sought for a position at a trauma, orthopedic, and neuro-focused unit located in Evansville, Indiana. The role involves providing comprehensive patient care during the night shift, with candidates required to bring their license on the first day. The facility primarily serves trauma, orthopedic, and neurological patient populations, and offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
Job Details:
- Location: Evansville, Indiana
- Shift: 12-hour nights, from 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM
- Schedule: 36 hours guaranteed per week, with potential for 48 hours upon request
- Contract Length: 13 weeks, starting on 06/22/2026
- Required Qualifications: Current active compact license, AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification, associate degree or certificate, minimum of 2 years as a registered nurse, at least one full year of experience in orthopedic, neuro, or trauma units, experience with recent Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systemsspecifically EPIC, and prior trauma level II experience
- Additional Information: This role requires strong neuro assessment skills, log rolling patients, applying assistive devices such as back braces and immobilizers, interpreting Telemetry/12-lead EKGs, and PIV insertion. Preferred skills include chest tube management, drainage systems, drips, epidural care, PEGs/NGs, traction, wound care, and other advanced procedures.
- Float: Float rotation may be required within skill sets, including possible float to nearby campuses with a two-hour notice. Cross-campus float is unlikely but possible.
- Call/Call Back: Not applicable
- Weekend/Holiday Requirements: Three weekends out of every six weeks and every other holiday (alternating holiday schedule).
- Charting Experience: Recent EPIC experience required and will require a checkoff class.
- Bed Capacity: 44 beds, with staffing ratios of 1:3-5 during days and 1:4-7 at night.
- Additional notes: The unit treats travelers as their own, with experienced leadership. No Covid-19 vaccine is currently required.
- Submission: Required certifications must be attached upon submittal.
