About the Role
The Nursing Director for Labor and Delivery is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing resources for one to two departments on a 24-hour basis. This leadership role ensures efficient resource utilization, staff recruitment and management, quality outcomes, and compliance with regulatory standards. The Director plays a key role in fostering positive relationships with staff, medical teams, and system departments while driving performance improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- General Management
- Develop and manage annual operating and capital budgets.
- Direct daily operations and staff performance.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.
- Communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
- Personnel Management
- Recruit, hire, and promote staff.
- Provide coaching, counseling, and performance evaluations.
- Minimize turnover and foster employee engagement.
- Support professional development and competency growth.
- Department Leadership
- Collaborate with medical staff to promote patient outcomes.
- Utilize data and statistical analysis for decision-making.
- Redesign workflows for efficiency and quality improvement.
- Lead performance improvement and case management initiatives.
Qualifications
- Education:
- Minimum: Bachelor s Degree in Nursing
- Preferred: Master s Degree in Nursing, Business, or related field
- Experience:
- Minimum: 5 years in labor and delivery or specialty discipline
- Preferred: 3 5 years of progressive management experience
- Licensure & Certifications:
- Current Texas RN license required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (AHA within 60 days of hire)
- Specialty or administration certification preferred
