Registered Nurse – Labor and Delivery

Schedule / Job TypeContract | Days | 12-Hour Shifts (06:45–19:15) | 36 Hours per Week | 13–26 Week Contracts Available
Key Responsibilities- Provide intrapartum, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum care for obstetrical patients 16 weeks and greater, as well as select high-risk patients under 16 weeks
- Manage double labor assignments as a routine daily occurrence in a high-volume, fast-paced birthing unit averaging approximately 20 births and 30–40 admissions per 24-hour period
- Perform sterile vaginal exams, circulate for scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births, and deliver immediate newborn care
- Support obstetrical triage functions including antenatal fetal surveillance, intravenous hydration, medication administration, and rescue cervical cerclage procedures
- Float to a high-risk Special Maternity Care OB unit as needed
- Precept and orient new staff members to the unit as needed; work a minimum of every other weekend (6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule)
Required Qualifications- Active RN license in NC or a Compact state
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience; 3 years strongly preferred
- Experience in a high-volume setting with greater than 300 births per month
- Proficiency in circulating to the OR, sterile vaginal exams, and immediate newborn care
- Current BCLS, AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring, and NRP certifications
- Familiarity with PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR documentation systems
Preferred Experience / Skills- Prior experience circulating in an OR setting within a Labor and Delivery environment
- Background in high-acuity or high-risk obstetrical care settings
- First-time travelers considered with demonstrated experience in a large, high-volume comparable setting
