Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Family Birthing Center (Labor and Delivery, Mother/Baby) Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in Labor and Delivery License: Valid RN License Certifications: ACLS BLS NRP Advanced Fetal Monitoring Must-Have: 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience is required; 3 years of experience preferred Ability to perform deliveries and provide neonatal care Comfortable with NRP at delivery Titration of drips required Description: The candidate must be capable of catching the baby during deliveries. The unit consists of 2 labor beds and 7 LDRP beds, with an overflow of 4-8 postpartum beds. There is 1 operating room suite available for Cesarean sections. An average of 70-80 births occurs each month, with approximately 60-70 antepartum tests conducted monthly. Labor ratios are 1:2 for active labor, transitioning to 1:1 during delivery, and 1:4 for mother/baby couplets. Nurses on this unit will not be working with a pediatric team in-house. CRNAs are available on-call on a 20-minute response time, but are not present in-house unless needed for a delivery. Respiratory therapists are present at every delivery to provide support and manage equipment, including ventilators and CPAP machines. Charge nurses or nurse shift managers are present each shift and typically do not take patient assignments unless necessary. No CNAs or surgical techs are scheduled on this unit; however, there is one OB Tech available each shift. Weekend requirements include working 2 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule, typically on Fridays/Saturdays or Saturdays/Sundays. The position may require being placed on-call or standby during scheduled shifts, with expectations to respond within 30 minutes. All shifts are scheduled 4 weeks in advance, and the organization reserves the right to cancel up to 4 shifts for a 13-week assignment. Charting is done through a specified electronic health record system. Nurses are required to take ACLS training but will recover patients in the Main PACU for those needing general anesthesia. Tele/monitor technicians are not present as nurses will monitor fetal heart rhythms independently.
