Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: - BLS - ACLS - NRP - Advanced Fetal Monitoring - COVID Vaccine Required Must-Have: - Dysrhythmia Test (PASS/FAIL) Description: Telemetry, L&D, Emergency and Critical Care RNs will take a proctored Dysrhythmia Test onsite, day one. The unit comprises 19 postpartum beds, 12 labor and delivery rooms, 2 operating rooms, and 1 PACU. Staff-to-patient ratios follow state regulations. The electronic medical record system used is Cerner and Fetal Link for surveillance. The charge nurse is a clinical supervisor 6 out of 7 days, with a team lead for staff support. The nurse manager is available Monday through Friday. There are no nurse aides; OB techs handle scrubbing and desk duties. Weekend requirements include 3 weekend shifts within a 4-week schedule, with Saturday and Sunday days and Friday and Saturday nights. Holidays are scheduled according to the permanent staff holiday rotation. Scrub color is provided by the facility. Telemetry is not available, using Phillips for the fetal heart monitoring system. There are no ventilators; hospitalists or intensivists are available in-house. Laborists (OB doctors) are present 24/7. Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy services are available 24/7. Shifts run from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM for both days and nights. Floating may occur to the pediatric unit, managing the same patients seen on the postpartum unit. Nicely, staff may only take feeders and growers from the NICU if they have prior experience. Floor-specific orientation consists of three shifts if circulating, otherwise two shifts. Circulating is not a requirement, as there are designated staff for this task. Common diagnoses and types of patients include both low and high-risk deliveries, with transfer for known congenital defects requiring immediate surgery. A Level III NICU is available. Peak patient volumes typically occur in July and October. The hospital may cancel up to four shifts per 13-week assignment or three shifts for shorter assignments.
