Job Title: Labor and Delivery Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor and Delivery Nurse Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years required License: Current RN Licensure Certifications: - Healthcare Provider Level of BLS within 30 days of hire - AAP NRP Advanced certification before the end of orientation - ACLS certification within 6 months of hire - AWHONN’s Intermediate Fetal Monitoring course within 3 months of completing L&D training Must-Have: - Experience as an acute care registered nurse preferred - Critical thinking skills - Ability to perform primary functions of a Registered Nurse - Emotional stability to deal with high-stress situations Description: This position is responsible for functioning as both a caregiver and care manager. In the caregiver role, the RN assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame implementing the Nursing Process. In the role of care manager, the RN directs and oversees the work of other caregivers via delegation, coordination, supervision, and validation/evaluation of patient care outcomes. The individual in this position will be required to fully understand the purpose and operation of Patient Care Services. They must have the ability to make decisions based on sound judgment when situations dictate. The RN performs assessment/data collection focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, and cognitive status. They implement care in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner by adhering to predetermined procedures, policies, and care plans. The RN identifies patient and significant other learning needs, readiness for learning, and implements patient teaching as defined by policy and care plans. Documentation in the patient’s chart is required per policy and in accordance with all regulatory requirements. The RN demonstrates awareness of and sensitivity to patient and family rights regardless of any classification protected by law. They demonstrate appropriate delegation of patient care activities and supervise assigned coworkers effectively. Additionally, the RN exhibits effective organization and priority setting utilizing sound critical thinking. They will maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations. The RN ensures compliance with organization policies and procedures and conducts themselves in a professional manner. Physical requirements include frequent standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, and manual dexterity. The individual must possess keen mental faculties for assessment and decision-making in managing acutely ill patients. Good reading eyesight is necessary, along with the ability to communicate effectively. Candidates should expect a high-stress environment associated with caring for acute patients and rapidly changing conditions. Additional accountabilities may be required as necessary to meet organizational standards.
