Job Title: Labor and Delivery Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 3 years License: Current RN Licensure Certifications: Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire Must-Have: - Ability to perform the primary functions of a Registered Nurse in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of all assigned patients. - Strong critical thinking skills and logical decision-making abilities. - Accountability and adherence to legal and ethical guidelines. - Competence in crisis management. - Competency in caring for patients across the age continuum. - Proficiency with equipment as per department specific checklist. Description: This position is responsible for functioning as both a caregiver and care manager. In the caregiver role, the RN assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame following the Nursing Process. In the role of care manager, the RN directs and oversees the work of other caregivers via delegation, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of patient care outcomes. The individual in this position will be required to fully understand the purpose and operation of Patient Care Services. They must have the ability to make decisions based on sound judgment when necessary. Essential Functions: Performs assessment and data collection, focusing on physiological, psychosocial, and cognitive status. Implements care in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner by utilizing predetermined procedures, policies, and care plans. Identifies patient learning needs and readiness for learning, implementing patient teaching as defined by policy and care plans. Documents in the patient’s chart as per policy and in accordance with all regulatory requirements. Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patient and family rights regardless of any classification protected by law. Demonstrates appropriate delegation of patient care activities and supervises assigned coworkers. Organizes and prioritizes tasks effectively utilizing sound critical thinking. Follows lines of authority appropriately. May act as Charge Nurse, delegating patient assignments, assisting with admits and discharges, and coordinating staff coverage for breaks. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and affiliations to stay abreast of trends in the field. Functions with awareness of safety requirements including infection control and safe lifting techniques. Ensures compliance with organizational policies and procedures. Conducts self in a professional manner and meets personal appearance standards required for the job. Handles additional accountabilities as required to meet organizational standards. Work Environment: This position reports to designated supervisory staff and works closely with patients, physicians, and other clinicians to ensure optimal patient care and outcomes. Physical Requirements: Frequent standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, and pushing. Manual dexterity and physical strength to perform tasks efficiently, including CPR and moving patients. Keen mental faculties to assess and make decisions regarding acutely ill patients. Good reading eyesight and ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare professionals. Emotional stability to manage high-stress situations associated with patient care and interactions with families.
