Supervises and directs the activities of various levels of assigned nursing and ancillary personnel. Ensures that all patients on the unit receive cost-effective, professional care that results in positive outcomes and high patient satisfaction. Maintains the highest level of patient safety and assesses steps to improve the quality of patient experience. Initiates and coordinates individual and team conferences with health team members, patients, and families to develop and revise care plans. Directs personnel in the performance of patient care activities to ensure quality patient care. Participates in patient care as needed and fosters an environment of patient and family-centered care. Makes rounds to oversee patient care needs and introduce self to patients and families. Solicits feedback on the quality of nursing services and any concerns. Develops interventions and systems to address patient care throughout the continuum. Implements strategies with management to improve customer satisfaction for patients, families, and physicians. Investigates and resolves patient care and operational issues as necessary. Recommends policy or procedure changes based on standards in collaboration with management. Ensures compliance with patient safety goals and initiatives. Works closely with clinical team members to implement systems or staff development activities. Assesses department operations and patient care processes for improvement opportunities. Facilitates data collection by staff and participates in quality activities to improve care. Manages assigned personnel based on patient acuity, needs, and available skills. Assigns staff to particular patients and care activities to effectively utilize skills and equalize workloads. Reviews and acts on schedule adjustment requests and monitors staffing costs. Evaluates performance of unit employees and provides coaching and discipline as appropriate. Participates in hiring and termination decisions for unit personnel. Instructs new personnel on job duties and assignments. Works with facility services to maintain department safety and operational status. Ensures department cleanliness and keeps management informed of activities and needs. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
