Job Title: Labor and Delivery Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Two years of Labor & Delivery required License: Current RN license in state of practice required Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course required Description: The Labor and Delivery Nurse is responsible for the planning and provision of nursing care to patients and their families during the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods. This includes handling emergency situations and assisting with C-Sections. Supervises and delegates care responsibilities to ancillary personnel in accordance with their scope of practice. Performs physical and psychosocial assessment demonstrating knowledge and consideration of age and cultural differences. Initiates a multidisciplinary, goal-oriented care plan in collaboration with members of the healthcare team. Demonstrates appropriate clinical judgment in managing perinatal emergencies. Competent in assessing fetal and maternal well-being, and recognizing and managing abnormalities. Effectively manages pain control in the laboring patient and supports alternative pain management methods. Assists with epidural catheter placement and monitors fetal and maternal status during and after the procedure. Educates patients and families throughout the perinatal and postpartum periods using appropriate methods. Completes accurate and timely documentation of all nursing care provided. Consistently performs safety and quality control checks specific to the unit. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
