Interviews will be simplified. The average number of deliveries per year is approximately 1800. Typically, there are 4 scheduled events daily, including c-sections and versions. The unit has 2 triage rooms and 7 labor rooms. PreOp and PACU are located in a labor room for pre-scheduled events. The facility covers a large geographical area with many referrals. There are 2 NICUs in the area, with one being among the few in the region. The facility is not currently designated as Baby Friendly. There is a rooming-in model for Mother-Baby care. Labor and Delivery and Mother-Baby are physically separate units next to each other. Patient types handled include PIH, GDM, Pre-Eclampsia, Eclampsia, HELLP, and shoulder dystocia. Labor nurses are responsible for newborn care if the mother remains for continuous surveillance. Patient ratios for cervical ripening range from 1:1 to 1:3. Laboring patients are maintained at a 1:1 ratio. Active labor patients should also have a 1:1 ratio. Postpartum and Antepartum patient ratios are typically 3 per nurse. Minimum staffing for Labor and Delivery is geared towards 6 RNs for both day and night shifts. Charge experience is highly preferred. Duties include setting up for vaginal deliveries, supporting during vaginal deliveries, and assisting with c-sections. Staff support includes a unit secretary, bed flow facilitator, and 24/7 coverage by charge nurses and other specialties. Anesthesia is available around the clock. The facility operates an electronic medical record system. Fetal monitoring is conducted remotely at the bedside and nurses' stations. Floating is possible to Mother-Baby, covering Antepartum, Postpartum, or occasionally Newborn Nursery roles. Weekend rotations require working at least 4 out of 8 weekend shifts scheduled. Holiday rotations are also expected. Scrub color is navy and provided on-site. Staff will wear street clothes in and out of the facility.
