Job Title: Level 4 RN L&D Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Oklahoma or Compact RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, STABLE Must-Have: Good written and verbal communication skills Description: Hospital delivers approximately 850 to 900 infants a year, averaging 75 per month. Ten Post and five L&D beds are available. Provides general care services for full recovery for women and babies. Assesses patients' clinical conditions, recognizing, identifying and interpreting serious situations. Prioritizes and takes proper action when necessary, including informing the physician and taking preplanned measures. Formulates nursing diagnoses to provide care for patients across the lifespan, from neonates to geriatric patients. Develops a plan of care by interviewing patients and family members and reviewing health records. Determines required health and physical care, including discharge planning. The plan of care reflects special cultural, religious, physical, and psychosocial needs. Initiates appropriate measures in emergency situations when the physician is not immediately available. Operates and monitors emergency care equipment such as infusion pumps, pulse oximeters, and ventilators. Administers therapeutic measures as prescribed by the physician. Plans, provides, and documents patient and family education on preventative, curative, and rehabilitative measures. Records observations, nursing interventions, and coordinated activities with other professional disciplines. Evaluates progress toward achieving outcomes, including patient status and response to interventions. Updates the plan of care as necessary. Documents specific health care requirements and prepares assignments for team members. Matches staff skills and abilities to patient care requirements. Plans and develops care delivery, coordinating documentation of care. Assumes oversight for patient care provided by licensed practical nurses and unlicensed personnel. Provides guidance and direction to other nursing staff. Shares responsibilities for maintaining adequate supplies and equipment. Promotes a safe environment and maintains general upkeep of the unit. Maintains knowledge and competency that reflects current nursing practice. Promotes professional growth for self and other staff members. Demonstrates positive role model and leadership qualities. Adheres to professional, ethical, and legal standards of nursing. Maintains positive personal work habits, interpersonal skills, and relationships with colleagues and patients.
